GM Lawsuit Alleges Police Cars Are Top Priority

With financial problems already pushing the company towards bankruptcy, GM is facing now a class action lawsuit. The suit filed by Donna Trusky, a Pennsylvania woman alleges that Chevrolet Impalas made in 2007 and 2008 have defective spindle rods. The defective rods caused her tires to need replaced after only 6,000 miles.

Trusky claims that GM doesn't care about the typical consumer and only cares about their cars that are used by law enforcement. The suit states that the company sent out a bulletin in June of 2008 to dealers about the defective spindle rods. In the bulletin GM informed its dealers that they could reimburse any law enforcement personnel that had to replace tires if they were purchased before July 31, 2009.

Trusky alleges that she had taken her car to the dealership to have the tires replaced, but they did not tell her about the bulletin or suggest that she have the spindle rods replaced. She also says that when she had to have the tires replaced again at 24,000 miles, the dealer still neglected to tell her about the defect.

Because GM did release a bulletin geared toward police cars only it will be very difficult for them to overcome the suit. Neglect can be easily proven since they did not issue a bulletin for ordinary consumers. Around 423,000 Impalas were sold during those two years, of which around 12,500 were used by the police.
